Calculator Instructions

Version 1.0 (preview)

This TCO calculator provides a quick way to estimate a 5-year cost curve for integration projects, such as Business Process Automation (BPR), Robotic Process Automation (RPA) or other enterprise systems integration initiatives, taking into consideration the following parameters:

  • Acquisition Cost: The initial purchase cost of the platform incurred in year 1, including basic configuration costs and initial hardware/software licenses
  • Maintenance Cost: % of the acquisition cost, yearly for 5 years (if variable per year, use the Upgrade Cost line instead)
  • Operating Costs: Underlying infrastructure costs over the years, including infrastructure refresh, storage costs, licensing agreements, expected renewal costs...
  • SDK Cost: Additional cost to extend the platform using a vendor-provided Software Development Kit or other paid add-ons.
  • Connectors/ODBC: Additional costs (licensing, installation, configuration) spent yearly on known integration projects, such as BPA, RPA or other Systems Integration (exclude development costs)
  • Dev Hours/Year: Integration development hours spent yearly integration projects to implement BPA/RPA initiatives
  • Hourly Rate: Average blended hourly rate for developing integration projects (including contractor costs, internal burn rate, project management rate...)
  • Development Maintenance: Average % of additional maintenance costs from previous year's Dev cost (for warranty/support work); percentage of previous year's total development costs

Note 1: This calculator is not designed to calculate complex TCO scenarios and should be used for directional guidance.

Note 2: This calculator was not designed for consumption-based models such as Platform (PaaS) or Software as a Service (SaaS) integration costs; however it may be possible to use the yearly Upgrade Cost line to emulate PaaS/SaaS costs if you can predict consumption levels.
